Git...A Closer Look

Git is the most popular version control system in the world. A statistic from 2017 suggests a 70% market share, and growing. Today, Git plays a role beyond just version control in most organizations—rather, it is the hub at the center of a movement that enables “everything”-as-a-code, a.k.a GitOps. As more and more organizations embrace the DevOps mindset, leveraging Git to the single source of truth for a declarative view of the continuous delivery pipeline becomes paramount.

So, if the world revolves around Git, are there practices that we can adopt to make our use of Git more effective? Does it matter how we write our commit messages? What GIt workflows work best for teams? Should we be merging or rebasing? What role can Git play in release engineering?

Whether you are new to GitOps, and everything-as-code, or a release engineering veteran, this session will have something for you. Join us to see and discuss how organizations are leveraging Git, and chime in with your experiences.

About Raju Gandhi

Founder, DefMacro Software

Raju is a software craftsman with almost 20 years of hands-on experience scoping, architecting, designing, implementing full stack applications.

He provides a 360 view of the development cycle, is proficient in a variety of programming languages and paradigms, experienced with software development methodologies, as well an expert in infrastructure and tooling.

He has long been in the pursuit of hermeticism across the development stack by championing immutability during development (with languages like Clojure), deployment (leveraging tools like Docker and Kubernetes), and provisioning and configuration via code (toolkits like Ansible, Terraform, Packer, everything-as-code).

Raju is a published author, internationally known public speaker and trainer.
